Participation in the Hungarian National Traditional Archery Championship (M.H.I.T 2014) , March 8th 2014, Dunaujvaros /Hungary

GREEK TRADITIONAL ARCHERY

The Archery Team of the “Koryvantes”Association, after the kind invitation of the Hungarian Archery Federation participated in the Hungarian Indoor Archery Championship Μ.Η.Ι.Τ. 2014, that took place on Sunday 8th of March 2014 in the city of Dunaujvaros/Hungary.

Our Accosiation’s mission, was the honored guest of the event. Our archers represented the Hellenic Traditional Archery shooting alongside well-known champions like Monus Jozsef and Lakatos Istvan and also 9 Hungarian Traditional Archery teams.

The Participation of the “Koryvantes” Association Archery Team was accompanied by a special honor: the usage for the first time in an International contest and under the auspice of a National Archery Federation a target relating to the perennial Hellenic Archery Tradition.

The target, product of the research of our Association's partner Mr. Dimitios Nikolakopoulos, was artistically base on Early Classical period red figure pottery depicted a scorpion on a shield – currently exhibited in Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. The presentation of the Hellenic target and the scoring system proposed / used by the Hungarian Archery Federation will be the subject of a detailed next article.

The official institution of the “Hellenic Target” in an International Archery Contest is a great recognition and success for the “Koryvantes” Association and highlights our Association’s ability to communicate with the highest elements of the International Family of Archers.

The archers competed in the “Hellenic Target”, in a special skill contest. Due to the great level of difficulty, the competition was intense and the participants desire to excel was heightened. The winner was the athlete Naphegyi-Boldis Daniel who was presented with a special prize by a member of our Association

For the “Koryvantes” archers, the participation in this honorary event was another great athletic and cultural experience and a chance to strengthen our bonds with the Great Family of Hungarian Traditional Archery
